The area surrounding Bacoachi is framed by the Sierra Madre Occidental, making the area ideal for ecotourism and hunting. Nearby is the Cerro Colorado Ranch, which hosted President Reagan and many other celebrities and dignitaries. The San Miguel Arcangel Temple was founded in 1670 and was totally remodeled in the early 1900s. The principal economic activity in the area is agriculture including large cattle ranching, with a total of over 185,000 acres in pasture. Other activities include mining and small commercial business.
